(a) Yes, Madam.
(b) The journal Nature has come up with a report: Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars on research performance of emerging institutions / countries across the globe. The selection of rising stars is based on the rate of increase in a country’s contribution to certain specific journals on a developed index. The report also provides information on country level R&D spending, and number of researchers. The report on India highlights the emergence of Chemistry with the information that it made up more than half of India’s scientific contributions to the index in 2015. The report traces the recent surge of research activities to the establishment of Science and Engineering Research Board under Department of Science and Technology and establishment of Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research in the country.
(c) Five Indian academic / research institutions, namely: Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) are figured in the list of top 100 institutions across the globe. Indian Institutes of Technology positioned first in list of top 25 institutions in South & South East Asia countries along with 20 other Indian Institutions.
