Question : Opposition of Nuclear Power Plants

(a) whether some States have opposed installation of nuclear power plants in their respective States due to threat perception, and if so, the details thereof; and

(b) the steps taken or proposed to be taken thereof?

(a)No. Sir. There have been sporadic incidences of opposition to installation of nuclear power plants by some groups due to apprehensions related to safety of the nuclear power plant and other issues like rehabilitation, loss of traditional means of livelihood. etc.

(b)A large public outreach programme based on a multipronged approach is implemented to address the apprehensions of the people about safety of nuclear power and related issues and allay their fears in a credible manner.
