Question : Deployment of Ambulance on NHs

(a) whether the Government has taken steps to ensure availability of ambulance at a gap of every 45 kilometers on National Highways (NHs) to ensure medical treatment to accident victims;
(b) if so, the number of ambulances deployed at toll plazas on NHs;
(c) whether the Government has taken steps to spread awareness about the helpline number 1033 among the people to register highway related complaints; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b) As per policy, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) aims to ensure availability of Ambulances on every operating toll plaza under its jurisdiction. As on date, over 710 Ambulances have been deployed across various National Highways under the jurisdiction of NHAI.

(c) & (d) The 1033 helpline number was launched by the Hon’ble Minister RT&H through press/media coverage so as to spread awareness of the helpline number amongst the masses. NHAI has installed signboards at various locations along the National Highways to sensitise the road users as regards use of 1033 helpline number. The same is also highlighted on social media websites by media cell of NHAI during important events such as Road Safety Week/Month observed every year.
