Question : PRODUCTION OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS



(a) whether the Union Government is considering to build bio- villages as a remedy to the health hazards of Chemicals and Fertilizers;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details about the domestic production of organic fertilizers for the last three years and current year, State-wise;

(d) whether the Government has instructed State Governments and various stake holders to give importance for production of organic fertilizers so as to attain self sufficiency in the usage of organic fertilizers;

(e) if so, the details thereof and the total number of organic fertilizer units established by the Government with the coordination of State Governments and public private partnership; and

(f) the steps taken by the Government to explore the possibilities of increasing the domestic production of organic fertilizers?

(a) to (c): There is no scientific evidence of declining soil/crop productivity from judicious use of chemical fertilizers. Government is promoting soil test based integrated nutrient management through conjunctive use of both inorganic and organic sources of plant nutrients. The details of the domestic production of organic fertilizer for last three years and the current year State wise is at Annexure-I.

(d) to (f): Government is promoting organic farming through various schemes/ programmes under National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), National Mission on Oilseeds & Oil Palm (NMOOP) Network Project on Organic Farming of ICAR and National Programme on Organic Production (NPOP) of APEDA.

Under the NMSA the financial assistance is provided through State Governments for :

# Organic Village adoption for manure management and biological nitrogen harvesting.
# Promotion of Organic Input production on farmer’s field.
# Setting up of Mechanized Fruit/Vegetable market waste/ Agro waste compost production unit and Bio-fertilizer / Bio-pesticide units The pattern of assistance provided to state governments through various schemes for promotion of organic farming is given at Annexure-II.

The details of organic fertilizer units established under Capital Investment Subsidy Scheme (CISS) through NABARD are given at Annexure-III.
