Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI R.P.N.SINGH)

(a) There are 82 old bridges on National Highways in Orissa which are weak/narrow and require reconstruction /rehabilitation. However, it is not possible to ascertain whether their life span has been exceeded or not because studies have not been carried out to determine the life span of individual bridges. Depending upon their conditions, the old bridges are taken up for reconstruction/rehabilitation within the available resources.

(b) to (d) The following 24 weak and narrow bridges have been identified for reconstruction and will be taken up from Annual Plan 2010-11 onwards depending upon the availability of funds.
