Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ATOMIC ENERGY

(SMT. VASUNDHRA RAJE)

(a) No, Sir.

(b) Does not arise.

(c) & (d) Land acquisition and rehabilitation of Project Affected People (PAPs) in nuclear power projects are carried out by the respective State Governments as per the rehabili- tation plan for which the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) provides funds. Developing model villages is not part of such rehabilitation programmes of the nuclear power project authorities. Although no `model village` is `adopted` by the NPCIL, certain welfare activities like provision of additional rooms to the existing school building, water supply, teaching materials for the nearby schools, repair to the approach road, conducting medical camps etc., are carried out by the project authorities for the benefit of the people living in the vicinity of the project, as a goodwill measure.
