Question : Indian Institute of Information Technology

(a) whether the Government is aware that the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) is
operating from Transit Campus at Hubli in Karnataka;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the details of funds allocated and released towards the institute during the last three years;
(d) whether the funds released is sufficient for establishment and operationalisation of permanent
campus; and
(e) if not, the Government’s reaction thereto and the time by which the said IIIT is likely to shift to new
campus?

(a): Yes Sir.
(b): IIIT Dharwad was established in April, 2015 under the Scheme of “Setting up of 20 new Indian
Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) in Public Private Partnership model” approved by the
Union Cabinet on 26.11.2010. It is currently operating from its transit campus at Dharwad, Hubli,
Karnataka.
(c): The details of funds released during the last 3 years is as under:

(d): Yes Sir. IIIT Dharwad has prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction of
permanent campus at a cost of Rs. 114 crore. A sum of Rs. 28.66 crore has been released so far,
including Rs.17.66 crore in 2019-20, by the Govt. of India to the IIIT Dharwad for construction
purpose. The Govt of Karnataka has also released Rs. 20 crore to the Institute. Thus, the funds are
released to the Institute in accordance with the progress of construction work.
(e): As per the timeline of the DPR, the date of completion of construction is July, 2020.
