(a) whether a Sugarcane Research Institute was set up in Mau for which construction of building and other work have already been completed;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) the funds provided for this institute; and
(d) the steps taken to commence the work of this institute?

(a) An Institute of Sugarcane & Sugar Technology was set up by the Food Ministry at Mau.
(b) to (d): Indian Council of Agricultural Research has taken over the entire movable and immovable assets in respect of National Institute of Sugarcane & Sugar Technology, Mau w.e.f. 1.6.2004. The National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms (NBAIM), New Delhi, a unit of ICAR, has been housed in this building. The bureau has started functioning.
