Question : Mandatory Check of Vehicles

(a) whether the Government is considering for mandatory check up of the vehicles before getting on to the Expressways;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to reduce the fatal road accidents due to high speed and poor road worthiness of the vehicles?

(a) & (b) No, Madam.

(c) This Ministry has issued notifications GSR 290(E) dated 15.04.2015 and GSR 424(E) dated 01.05.2017 mandating fitment of speed governor on certain category of transport vehicles with maximum pre-set speed of 80 kmph and for transport vehicles like dumpers, tankers, school buses, those carrying hazardous goods with maximum speed of 60 kmph to reduce the fatal road accidents due to high speed. All the transport vehicles are mandatorily required to obtain annual certificate of fitness from the prescribed authority in the State to ensure that they are road worthy.
