Question : EXPORT OF PROCESSED MEAT



(a) whether the Government is making efforts to provide special assistance and to promote the industries in the States engaged in export of processed meat and its products;

(b) if so, the names of the States which have exported the maximum quantum of the said products in 2004-05;

(c) the amount given by the Government as grant in the country including Uttar Pradesh since 2003-04, State-wise;

(d) whether the Government has sought its report from the States; and

(e) if so, whether the Government proposes some scheme for giving grants for modernization of these units during the current year?

THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI SUBODH KANT SAHAI)

(a) & (e): The Government is implementing various Plan Schemes for development and promotion of food processing industries including processed meat manufacturing units for exports.

These Schemes include Scheme for Technology Upgradation/ Establishment/Modernization of Food Processing Industries, Scheme for Quality Assurance, Research and Development etc.

(b): No state-wise export data is being maintained.

(c) & (d): During the year 2003-04 and 2004-05 Ministry of Food Processing Industries have provided financial assistance of Rs. 235.75 lakhs and Rs. 277.90 lakhs respectively for Technology Upgradation/Establishment/Modernization of meat and meat products manufacturing units in the country, out of which Rs. 50.00 lakhs and Rs. 98.80 lakhs respectively has been provided for such units in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
