Question : Establishment of Green Courts



(a) whether the Government is planning to establish Green Courts in all States associated with State High Courts;

(c) whether any funds are given to States for establishing green courts; and

(a) to (d) : No, Madam. The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change which is the nodal Ministry in this regard has informed that there is no proposal to establish Green Courts in all the States and as such, providing funds to the States and further details thereof does not arise.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has also informed that the National Green Tribunal(NGT) has been established on 18th October, 2010, under the NGT Act, 2010, for the effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal rights relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. NGT’s Principal Bench in Delhi and four Zonal Benches at Bhopal, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata are already operational.
