Question : ESIC HOSPITAL FOR TEA GARDEN WORKERS

(a)the details of total number of Employees` State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospitals in the country including the tea garden areas of Assam;

(b)whether the Government proposes to set up more such Employees` Insurance Corporation Hospitals in the country including Assam;

(c)if so, the details thereof, State-/UT-wise;

(d)the estimated number of tea garden workers benefited under the ESIC Scheme in the country including Assam;

(e)whether the Government has issued any directions to these industrial units (Tea Companies) to register their employees under this scheme; and

(f)if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a): The details of total number of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospitals in the Country including Assam is at Annex-I.

(b) & (c): The ESI Corporation has approved setting up of some more hospitals in the country. State/UT wise list of such hospitals is at Annex-II.

(d): Plantation workers are not covered under ESI Act, 1948.

(e) & (f): Does not arise, in view of reply to part (d) of the question above.
