Question : EFFECT OF EARTHQUAKE ON TEXTILE INDUSTRY OF GUJARAT



(a) the extent to which damage has been caused to the textile mills as a result of recent earthquake in Gujarat;

(b) the number of workers affected thereby;

(c) whether rehabilitation of affected mills has been taken up;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the expenditure incurred thereon ?

(a) & (b) According to the National Textile Corporation (NTC) their mills in Gujarat suffered a damage to the tune of Rs.34.60 lakh because of the earthquake. The number of workers involved was 886. It is reported that the damage suffered by private sector mills has not been substantial.

(c) to (e) No specific proposal has been received by the Ministry of Textiles from any of the affected mills for rehabilitation assistance on account of earthquake damage.
