Question : RESERVED ITEMS IN SSI SECTOR



(a): whether certain items have been reserved for production under small scale sector;

(b): if so, the number of items reserved till the end of July, 2004;

(c): the number of items dereserved from this category along with dates on which they were dereserved during the last three years; and

(d): the assessment regarding the benefits to the small scale industry sector after deleting several items from the reserved list?

(a)to(d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT ATTACHED TO THE REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 332 REPLY ON 18.08.2004.

(a)&(b): Yes, Sir. As at the end of July, 2004, 675 items stood reserved for exclusive manufacture in the small scale sector.

(c): During the last three years, 141 items (including 4 sub items) have been dereserved from the list of items reserved for exclusive manufacture in the small-scale sector. Out of these, one item was dereserved vide Notification S.O. 2(E) dated 1.1.2001; fourteen items (including two sub items) vide Notification S.O. 603(E) dated 29.06.2001; fifty one items (including one sub item) vide Notification 533(E) dated 20.5.2002 and seventy five items (including one sub item) vide Notification S.O. 649(E) dated 3.6.2003.

(d): Dereservation has been done over the years after consulting the stakeholders so as to allow greater opportunities to the SSIs for technological upgradation, promotion of exports and achieving economies of scale.
