Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI)

(a) and (b): Recently, there were several instances of denial of entry by the United States (US) Immigration authorities to Indian students having valid visas to pursue studies in the US. According to the US Government, these students had presented information to the Border Protection agent which was inconsistent with their visa status.
(c) and (d) : The Government of India took up strongly the matter with the US Government. The Government emphasized the need for the US authorities to honour the visas issued by their own Embassy/Consulates. The Government engaged closely with the US Government with the aim of ensuring that no bonafide students or other travellers are denied entry. The Ministry of External Affairs issued two advisories on December 23, 2015 and December 30, 2015 in this regard. These advisories were also placed on the website of the Mission. Through these advisories, Government has advised students seeking admission in US educational institutions to do due diligence on issues related to proper authorization and capacities at the Institute before seeking admission there. The students have also been advised to carry all required documentation.

(e) In view of the above, does not arise.
