Question : SHUT DOWN OF IT FIRMS

(a) whether the Government is aware that the large number of foreign IT companies/ MNCs functioning in various parts of the country have shut down ;

(b) if so, the details thereof ;

(c) the names of such companies which got wound up during the last three years along with reasons therefor ;

(d) the total number of employees who were rendered unemployed as a result thereof and whether they received adequate compensation ; and

(e) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to provide relief to them ?

(a) to (c): Specific record in regard to shut down of foreign IT companies/MNCs is not maintained. However, Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has intimated the names of the foreign companies which have closed during the last three years and the current year, as given in the Annexure. The decision to wind up/close the companies are taken by their respective managements.

(d): The details of loss of employment due to the closure of such companies is not being maintained. According to the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Foreign IT firms operating in various parts of India, including MNCs are not covered in Central sphere under the Office of Chief Commissioner of Labour( Central).

(e): Does not arise.
