Question : OFFICERS POSTED ABROAD



(a) the number of officers and employees of Doordarshan and AIR posted in the foreign countries;

(b) the names of places where the said officers and employees are posted alongwith the time since when they have been working there;

(c) the additional expenditure borne by the Government on deputing these officers and employees in the foreign countries; and

(d) the manner in which the review of the performance of these officers and employees posted in foreign countries is conducted?

(a) & b)At present, there are 7 posts of Special Correspondents at Dubai, Kathmandu, Brussels, Washington, Hong Kong, Colombo and Dhaka. Orders for posting of officers to all these places have been issued in December, 1999. Officers posted at Dubai, Kathmandu and Brussels joined their duties in February, March and April, 2000 respectively. Officers at other places would also join their duties as soon as they are relieved from their present assignment.

(c) The expenditure towards salary and other allowances in respect of the 3 officers who have already joined duty abroad is Rs.5.85 lakhs (approximately) per month.

(d) The performance of the officers posted abroad is monitored on the basis of news items, despatches, scripts for commentaries and spotlights, contributed by them. Their contributions are also monitored by the officer designated to look after reporting at Prasar Bharati Headquarters and at the editorial meetings by the Director General (News).
