Question : LAYING OF PIPELINE BY GAIL THROUGH RAJASTHAN



(a) whether the Gas Authority of India Limited is laying a new pipeline passing through Rajasthan;

(b) if so, the details thereof alongwith the places through which the said pipeline is likely to pass;

(c) whether the gas storage and bottling plant are also proposed to be set up for the purpose;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) the total expenditure likely to be incurred on the said pipeline and the time by which the work on the said pipeline is likely to be completed;

(f) the reasons for not providing jobs to the local people while deploying for the construction of the said pipeline; and (g) the provisions made for providing compensation for the agricultural land and other area acquired by the Gas Authority of India Limited in this regard?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is laying an LPG pipeline from Jamnagar (Gujarat) to Loni (UP) via Delhi, passing through the Districts of Sirohi, Pali, Ajmer, Jaipur and Alwar in Rajasthan.

(c) & (d) Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. are setting up new bottling plants and also augmenting the existing ones to be catered by this LPG pipeline of GAIL.

(e) Total expenditure is estimated to Rs. 1229.45 crore and this LPG pipeline project is scheduled to be completed by February 2001.

(f) GAIL has awarded the construction job of this pipeline to various vendor contractors, who employ the local people for their works as per the need and requirement in job.

(g) The land is not acquired by GAIL but only the Right of Use in land is acquired under the provisions of the Petroleum & Minerals Pipelines (Acquisition of Right of Use in Land) Act, 1962 (P&MP Act) for laying the above LPG pipeline. The compensation for acquiring the right of use in land is paid as determined by the Competent Authority appointed for this purpose under the P&MP Act.
