Question : Steel Export

(a) whether it is a fact that the Engineering Exporters use steel as a raw material to manufacture products for export purposes;

(b) if so, whether it is a fact that high prices of domestic steel has resulted in non-competitiveness of Indian downstream engineering exports;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the domestic steel makers charge huge margins from engineering exporters;

(e) if so, the facts thereof;

(f) whether there is a need to provide steel at affordable rates to engineering exporters; and

(g) if so, the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to provide steel at affordable rates to engineering exporters?

(a)to(g): Yes, Sir. Steel Industry is a deregulated sector and steel prices in the country are market driven and commercially determined.
