Question : MONOPOLY IN SUPPLY OF COAL



(a) whether the Government proposes to reduce the monopoly of the Coal India Limited (CIL) with regard to supply of coal to domestic and non-captive consumers;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which it is likely to be implemented?

MINISTER OF THE STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COAL (DR. DASARI NARAYAN RAO):

(a) By and large, supply of coal to domestic and non-captive consumers is made by Coal India Limited and Singareni Collieries Company Limited. At present, there is, however, no such proposal to change the existing procedure of supply of coal by Coal India Limited/Singareni Collieries Company Limited to domestic and non captive consumers.

(b) and (c) Do not arise in view of reply given at (a) above.
