Question : REJUVENATION OF FORTS



(a) whether the Government has been working on to preserve and rejuvenate the BHUIKOT FORT near Ahmadnagar where Pandit Nehru wrote his book, ‘Discovery of India’, while in detention during the struggle of country’s Independence;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the funds provided for rejuvenation work of the fort and the time by which it is likely to complete the work?

(a)to(c) The BHUIKOT FORT is neither a protected monument of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) nor of the State Government. However as per information received from the State Government authorities (Collectorate, Ahmednagar) a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Defence authority and Collector Ahmednagar in August 2007 for conservation of the said fort. The estimated cost of the conservation and development works at the fort is about Rs. 6.55 crores and the same are in progress.
