(a) whether the Union Government have received any proposals from the State Governments during the last three years for financial assistance to control sea-erosion in the States; and
(b) if so, the amount of assistance provided to the State
Governments during the said period for the purpose ?

(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) No central assistance to control sea–erosion has been
provided by this Ministry to Coastal States/UTs during the
last three years. However, on the request of the Government
of Tamil Nadu, Planning Commission has approved an
additional central assistance of Rs. 1.00 crore for the
purpose of prevention of coastal erosion in North Chennai
during the year 2000-01.
