Question : Skill Development in Left Wing- Naxal Affected Areas

(a) whether the Government has received any request to open ITIs and to extend the skill development schemes/ programmes in Left Wing Extremist/Naxal Affected areas;

(b) if so, the details thereof during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise including Odisha; and

(c) the action taken by the Government thereon, State-wise?

Answer given by the minister

(a) Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India has received proposals from 9 States to open 34 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 34 Left Wing Extremism affected districts.

Ministry of Home Affairs vide their letter no. 18015/11/2010-NM-IV dated 7th August, 2012 strongly recommended to consider extension of coverage under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme “Skill Development in 34 Districts Affected by Left Wing Extremism” to 71 LWE affected districts.

(b) The details are at Annexure.

(c) An amount of Rs. 94.14 crore has been released to the 9 States to establish 34 ITIs and 68 Skill Development Centers (SDCs) across the identified 34 districts as provided at Annexure.
