Question : SUPER EXPRESS HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME



(a) whether the work has started in full swing for construction of Super Express Highways;

(b) the estimate of the employment being generated directly by these road construction schemes; and

(c) the time by which said highways are likely to be completed?

(a) Presumably, the Hon`ble Member has referred to the National Highway Development Project (NHDP) which involves4/6-laning of the National Highways connecting the four metropolitan cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata (Golden Quadrilateral), Srinagar to Kanyakumari with Kochi-Salem Spur (North-South Corridor) and Silchar to Porbandar (East-West Corridor). The work has been started in full swing for achieving the targets.

(b) The total estimated employment potential for implementing the NHDP is around 40 crore man-days.

(c) The Golden Quadrilateral is targeted for substantial completion by December, 2003. The North-South and East-West Corridors are targeted for completion by December, 2007.
