Question : Spotting of Laser Beam at IGI-Airport

(a): whether a laser beam was spotted by the security agencies stationed at a watch tower at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport;

(b): if so, the details thereof;

(c): whether laser beams can cause disruption in landing of aircraft at the airport and if so, the details thereof;

(d): whether any such incident has been reported due to this effect so far, if so, the details thereof;

(e): whether security agencies at airports and Air Traffic Controllers at IGI Airport have requested Government that there needs to be a blanket ban on such lights at least in areas around the airports; and

(f): if so, the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) & (b): No information of spotting of Laser beams by security agencies has been reported to Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

(c): The Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) Section 4 Series B Part 1, regarding Aerodrome Design and Operations, issued by the office of Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), inter-alia deals with the issues of Laser beams.

(d): No disruption of traffic has been reported by Airports Authority of India (AAI) due to this effect so far.

(e) & (f): No request has been received by the regulatory authority for Civil Aviation security in the country i.e. BCAS. Issues related to LASER beams are dealt as per the relevant CAR.
