Question : LPG CONNECTIONS



(a) the number of LPG connections allotted in the country during each of the last three years, State-wise ;

(b) whether the Government has restricted the allotment of new LPG connections in the country ; (

(c) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor ;

(d) the number of persons on the waiting list for allotment of LPG connections in the country, State-wise ; and

(e) the time by which the waiting list is likely to be cleared ?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM & NATURAL GAS (SHRI DINSHA PATEL)

(a) : At present, 3 Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), namely Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) are releasing LPG connections in the country. OMCs have released a total of 220.72 lakh LPG connections during the last three years and April-September 2006 as under :

(b) & (c ) : Government have not imposed any restrictions on OMCs for allotment of new LPG connections. New connections are generally available easily for genuine domestic customers.

(d) & (e) : As on 01.11.2006, there is a waiting list of 63,543 for new LPG connections with the LPG distributors of OMCs. The State-wise details are at Annex. The waiting list is expected to be cleared by end of December 2006.
