Question : NATIONAL HIGHWAYS IN BIHAR



(a) the total number of National Highways passing through Bihar and the latest condition thereof;

(b) the number of highways which require urgent repairs;

(c) whether Government are formulating a special contingency plan for reconstruction of the Grand Trunk Road; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Bihar is served by 20 National Highways which are maintained in traffic worthy conditions within the available resources. Maintenance and repair is a continuous activity.

(c) & (d) The National Highway No.2 popularly known as Grand Trunk Road is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral. This road is being widened to four-lane/six-lane and strengthened to National Highway standards by National Highway Authority of India. The work is targetted to be completed by 2003.
