(a) to (c) Yes Sir, the Government was approved setting up of the UNESCO Regional Centre for
Biotechnology at Faridabad, Haryana under the administrative control of the Department of
Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology. The Centre would act as a regional hub for
interdisciplinary education, training and research in Biotechnology. It would also be a focal
point for cooperation amongst the member countries of the Asian Region. The Centre is already
functioning from a temporary facility at Gurgaon, Haryana. Activities on educational, training,
research programmes, design and construction of the main campus have been initiated.
The permanentcampus at Faridabad shall be functional by July 2012.
