Question : ASSISTANCE TO KARNATAKA FOR DEVELOPMENT OF TOURIST SPOTS



(a) whether the Government of Karnataka has submitted any proposal for financial assistance for the development of tourist spots in the State;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken if any, thereon; and

(c) the names of the Historical spots in Karnataka being financial assisted by the Union Government at present?

MINISTER OF TOURISM AND CULTURE (SHRI JAGMOHAN)

(a) to (c): Department of Tourism, Government of India has decided that during the 10th Five Year Plan it will identify six travel circuits in the country on an annual basis and develop them to international standards. These circuits will be finalised and developed in close coordination and partnership with the State/UT Governments and the concerned Government of India Departments. In addition to this it is proposed to identify one major destination in each State/Union Territory for overall development each year.

In pursuance of the proposals received from the State Tourism Department of Karnataka, it has been decided to develop the following places in Karnataka during 2002-2003:

(1)	Coastal Karnataka as part of the West Coastal Circuit	(2)	Hampi as a major destination	(3)	Kokkare Bellur as a Rural Tourism Project	(4)	Beugle Rock Garden, Bangalore


During the last three ;years, 65 tourism projects including projects for historical sites have been sanctioned in the State of Karnataka.
