Question : PLANTATION OF BAMBOOS



(a) whether the Government propose to set up a project for plantation of bamboos in the rural and tribal areas in Jharkhand State so as to provide means of livelihood to the rural and tribal people to maintain ecological balance; and

(b) if so, the time by which the said project is likely to be implemented?

(a) & (b) A project for Bamboo Plantation in Dumka and Ranchi districts, now in Jharkhand State has been approved and sanctioned under the centrally sponsored scheme of Non-Timber Forest Produce including Medicinal Plants. The total outlay of the project is Rs.102.63 lakhs for treating an area of 1500 ha for the remaining two years of the 9th Plan. An amount of Rs.30.00 lakhs has also been released as first instalment under the project.
