Question : ALLOCATION FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT



(a) Whether the Government proposes to allocate at least one per cent of the Gross Domestic Product every year for research and development activities in the industrial sector in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the action taken in this regard; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) No, Madam.

(b) Does not arise.

(c) The allocation from the Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) is made as per requirement of various Ministries/Departments, keeping in view the resource position of the government. The Central Plan Outlay for the Industry and Minerals Sector (including IEBR of PEs etc.) as per Budget for the year 2012-13 is Rs. 57,227 crore.
