Question : Schemes to help Textile Industry

(a) whether the Government has come up with any schemes to help the textile industry in the country;

(b) if so, the details of the scheme and the beneficiary industries;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to establish Special Economic Zones (SEZ) for textile manufacturers only;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): In order to support the growth and modernization of the textile industry in the country, the Government has been implementing several schemes viz. the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (A-TUFS), Schemes for the development of the Powerloom Sector(Power-Tex), Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP),SAMARTH- The Scheme for Capacity Building in Textile Sector, Integrated Processing Development Scheme (IPDS), Silk Samagra, National Handloom Development Programme, National Handicraft Development Programme, Integrated Wool Development Programme (IWDP), National Technical Textile Mission, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Textiles, Scheme of Rebate of State and central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL) etc.

(c) to (e): Existing scheme of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) covers all sectors including textiles. There is no proposal exclusively of SEZ for textile industry. However, to enable textile sector to achieve size and scale and to become competitive, the Government has launched PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) scheme.
