Question : Treatment of Waste

(a) whether the Government is aware of the fact that majority of the industrial plants are using outdated technologies and makeshift facilities devoid of any provision of treating their wastes;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the remedial measures taken thereon; and
(c) the names of cities identified as the worst in terms of air and water pollution in the country, State-wise including Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan?

(a)&(b) State Pollution Control Board (SPCB)/ Pollution Control Committee (PCC) monitor adherence to the emission and effluent standards for industries and authorisation for disposal of wasted and monitor their compliances, as applicable. The industry may select a particular technology or, combination of technologies to comply with prescribed standards.

(C) Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has categorized a few cities in some States including Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh as per Air Quality Index, 2016. The CPCB has also identified polluted river stretches in some States.
