MINISTER FOR DRINKING WATER AND SANITATION
(SUSHREE UMA BHARTI)
(a) to (b) A Statement is laid on the table of the house.

Statement referred to in the reply to Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 150 due for answer on 28.12.2017.
(a) & (b) Rural drinking water supply is a state subject. This Ministry supplements the efforts of the states by providing them with technical and financial assistance through the centrally sponsored National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) for improving the coverage of clean drinking water to rural population. Under NRDWP, states are empowered to plan, design and execute rural water supply schemes which are approved by State Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SLSSC) and do not come to this Ministry for approval.

Further, this Ministry had launched National Water Quality Submission (NWQSM) for which proposals submitted by the States, proposals considered in the Ministry and funds released under NWQSM as on 22nd December, 2017 is at Annexure.

Moreover, States seeking external assistance from international lending agencies for rural drinking water supply projects do submit proposals to this Ministry for recommendation to Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance. Since 2014-15, eighteen such proposals have been received from the States. Six of these proposals were deficient in respect of requisite documents and the remaining 12 have been recommended to the DEA.
