Question : RAKESH MOHAN COMMITTEE



(a) whether the Expert Group on Railways under the Chairmanship of Dr. Rakesh Mohan had submitted a report to the Ministry of Railways in the year 2001;

(b) if so, the details of the main recommendations made by the said Group along with the steps taken/being taken or proposed to be taken thereon by the Railways;

(c) whether the Railway proposes to operate more electric trains in the country by expediting electrification of railway tracks; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1093 BY DR. RAM SHANKAR KATHARIYA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 17.07.2014 REGARDING RAKESH MOHAN COMMITTEE.

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. The report of the Expert Group was submitted in July, 2001 and it contained 34 major recommendations of which 16 were accepted, 08 partially accepted and 10 were not accepted.

(c): Ministry of Railways is taking steps to fast track electrification projects. Indian Railways have already embarked upon a major Electrification Programme to speed up the electrification of Railway Lines.

(d): During the first two years of 12th Five Year Plan i.e. (2012-14), 2667 Route Kilometres (RKM) have been electrified as against the proportionate target of 2600 Route Kilometres (RKM).
