(a): The Government of India has revised the guidelines of the Centrally Sponsored
`Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme` (ILCS). As per the revised guidelines it is
proposed to convert existing dry latrines into water borne flush toilets in the urban
areas of the country in a time bound manner by the year 2009-10.
(b): The revised Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme envisages conversion of
all existing dry latrines within a period of 3 years (2007-2010). There is a budget
provision of Rs. 150 crores for the current financial year under the scheme. The revised
guidelines have been circulated to all the States/UTs. The first batch of
proposals received from the State of Bihar was approved for conversion/construction of
1222/8586 sanitary units.
