Question : Safety in School Buses

(a) whether the Central Board of Secondary Education has recently issued a circular in
regard to the safety of children in school buses;
(b)if so, whether the school management is placed in a quandary with regard to the
guidelines of the circular and is likely to increase financial burden on the school and the
parents; and
(c) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (c) : Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular in
February, 2017 with regard to safety of school children in the school buses. Circular is
uploaded on CBSE website (www.cbse.nic.in). Safety of children traveling in school buses
is of paramount importance the Board taking into consideration the judgment pronounced
by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the statutory provisions, directives of the State
Governments, provisions in Affiliation Bye laws of CBSE and circulars issued by CBSE from
time to time, a comprehensive guidelines have been consolidated to ensure safety of
school children in the school buses. Transportation service for school children is offered
by the schools on non profit basis, there would be no additional financial burden on the
schools.
