(a) & (b) The Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 provides for consultation process with
Medical Council of India before the Central Government takes any decision with regard to
recognition of foreign medical degrees within or outside the scheme of reciprocity. However,
the Central Government is empowered to take a final decision on considering the recommendations
of MCI.
After consultation with Medical Council of India, the Central Government has notified
the recognition of postgraduate medical qualifications awarded to Indian citizens in Australia,
Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States of America, on 10th March, 2008.
