(a) to (d): A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.
Statement in reply to parts (a), (b), (c) & (d) of the Starred (*) Question No. 89 for answer on 27.06.2019 regarding ''Modernisation of Airports'';; (a) There are 103 domestic airports, 10 Customs airports and 28 International airports in the country. The State/UT-wise details are at Annexure-I.;; (b) Modernisation of airports is a continuous process and is undertaken by Airports Authority of India(AAI) and concerned airport operators from time to time depending on the availability of land, commercial viability, socio-economic considerations, traffic demand / willingness of airlines to operate to/from such airports etc. To meet the demand, AAI has embarked upon a Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) plan of Rs. 25,000 crores over a period of 5 years for development / modernisation / upgradation of AAI airports in the country including Coimbatore, Chennai, Madurai, Trichy and Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu, Guwahati in Assam, Imphal in Manipur, Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan, Leh, Jammu and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, Agra, Kanpur and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad in Telangana, Patna and Bihta in Bihar, Bhubneswar in Odisha, Rajkot in Gujarat and Kolhapur and Pune in Maharashtra. ; (c) The State/UT-wise details of the funds estimated and targets set for the modernisation of airports across the country are at Annexure - II.;; (d) No, Sir. No MoU has been signed with the State Government of Tamil Nadu as the development works are taking place at AAI owned airports.
