Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES

(SMT. BIJOYA CHAKRAVARTY)

(a) & (b) The work on various component of the Sardar Sarovar Project is in progress except the construction of the Dam which is constrained due to Civil Writ Petition filed by the NBA in Supreme Court in 1994. Supreme Court in its interim order on 5.5.1995 directed to maintain the effective height of the dam at RL 81.5 meters and on 18.2.99 permitted to raise the height of the Dam upto RL 85 meters excluding humps required for safety of the Dam.

(c) & (d) At present the issue of further raising of the Dam is subjudice in the Hon`ble Supreme Court. A definite construction schedule is necessary to estimate loss due to delay in the construction of the dam, which depends on the final verdict of the Hon`ble Supreme Court.
