(a) to (d) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility to construct stadiums rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government supplements their efforts. The stadiums in various parts of the country are under the jurisdiction of the respective bodies/departments of the State/UT Governments. As such, the information about them is not maintained in this Ministry. However, under the “Utilisation and creation/upgradation of sports infrastructure” component of the Khelo India Scheme, this Ministry has sanctioned 289 sports infrastructure projects of various categories amounting to ? 2396.49 crore across the country, including Bihar (11) and Tamil Nadu (5), on the basis of proposals received from them from time to time.
