(a) Yes, Sir.
(b) & (c): Post Offices are being computerised by setting up Multi Purpose Counter Machines providing the public one-hop-stop service, cutting down drastically waiting time at the counter. The Department has also computerised many post offices in a LAN environment which includes Post Office Savings Bank service. In addition, softwares have been developed for total computerisation of post offices both in front and back office functions with the help of technology. Satellite communication technology is also being used for transfer of money orders from one post office to another.
As on date Multi Purpose Counter Machines have been installed in 95 post offices in Andhra Pradesh. The state-wise details of the number of Post offices where computerisation has been carried out are given in the Annexure.
(d) The number of post offices to be computerised during the next two years would depend on availability of resources. The Tenth Five Year Plan has not yet been finalised.
