Question : ACTIVITIES OF SIMI



(a) whether the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) is running its activities in various States including Tamilnadu and the Union Territory of Pondicherry;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the number of SIMI activists arrested or killed by security forces, State-wise; and

(c) the details of steps taken by the Union Government to check such illegal activities in the country?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (c) OF THE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 530 FOR 21.10.2008 REGARDING “ACTIVITIES OF SIMI”.

(a) Activities of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) have come to notice in various States including Tamil Nadu. However, as per reports, no significant activity has been noticed in the union Territory of Puducherry.

(b) According to available information, the number of SIMI activists arrested in various States during the last 3 years (till September, 2008) is as under ;-

Data regarding number of SIMI activists killed by security forces is not being compiled and maintained, centrally.

(c) The activities of all such Organisations having an adverse bearing on peace, communal harmony and security of the country are under constant watch of the law enforcement agencies and requisite action, including ban under the Unlawful activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, is being taken on a continuing basis to prevent and check such activities.
