Question : Development of Religious Tourist Places

(a) whether the Government has any plan/strategy to develop the religious tourist places;
(b) the details of the expenditure incurred in development of religious tourist places of the country, State/UT-wise including Assam;
(c) whether the Government has identified religious tourist places for development in Assam if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to provide adequate fund for development of religious tourist places of Barpeta HPC area like Barpeta Kirtan Ghar, Bagheswani Temple of Bongaigaon, Satras, Mazars/Dargahs and other temples?

(a) to (d): Development of Religious Tourist Places is the responsibility of the respective State Governments/Union Territories. However, Ministry of Tourism, under the schemes viz., Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) and “Integrated Development of Theme Based Tourist Circuit in the Country, Swadesh Darshan (SD)" provides Central Financial Assistance for infrastructure development and beautification of pilgrim places on receipt of suitable DPRs submitted by State Governments/Union Territories, subject to availability of funds, liquidation of pending utilisation certificate against the fund released earlier and adherence to the relevant scheme guidelines.
