Question : Lack of Electricity in Schools

(a) whether the Government is aware that a number of Kendriya Vidyalayas
situated in rural areas in the country are not getting adequate power supply and facing
lots of similar problems and if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(b) whether the Government has formulated any policy to provide solar energy to
all the Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country, if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the progress made in this regard so far and time by which all the Kendriya
Vidyalayas in the country are likely to be supplied solar power?

(a) Some of the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) situated in rural areas in the country
are connected to the rural feeder of the state electricity boards. Wherever there is
lack of reliability of power supply, alternative arrangements including electricity supply
through generators are made to ensure that teaching-learning process is not
hampered in such KVs. List of such KVs is annexed.
(b) & (c) No, Madam. However, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, in collaboration with
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is exploring the option of using available
rooftop area in various Kendriya Vidyalayas to assess the power generation capacity.
