Question : NON-PAYMENT OF TELEPHONE BILLS



(a) the number of persons found in Delhi who have not paid their bills in respect of previous disconnected telephone and have taken another telephone on the same address during the last three years;

(b) whether it is possible to take fresh telephone on the same address without payment of bills of previous telephone;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) if not, the action taken by the Government against such officials found involved in such activities?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS(SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR)

(a) Nine cases have come to light in MTNL, New Delhi.

(b) & (c): It is not permissible under the Telephone Rules. However, if the customer suppresses the facts relating to outstanding bills and this goes undetected, he may get another telephone installed against the rules.

(d) No official has been found involved. However, action against the concerned subscribers have been initiated as per rules.
