(a) whether the Government have received the report of Consultant Committee on
Central Power Sector Undertakings;
(b) if so, the details of recommendations made by the Committee in their report;
(c) whether the Government have examined the report;
(d) if so, the details of recommendations accepted and implemented by the
Government; and
(e) the extent to which the Power Sector Undertakings have been strengthened
thereafter?

(a) to (e) : M/s. ICICI and SBI Capital markets were engaged as consultants to study
the financial engineering of the Central Power Sector Undertakings with a view to
enabling them to leverage larger resources for investment. On considering their
observations, NTPC has engaged AT Kearney Consultants for undertaking a study with
the objective of positioning NTPC as a premier and competitive power utility of
international standard. The study is in progress. Some of the CPSUs have decided to
explore the possibility of entering the capital market with a public issue of equity.
