Question : MIGRATION OF YOUTHS FROM VILLAGES



(a) whether it is a fact that migration of youths from villages to cities has acquired dangerous proportions;

(b) if so, the rate of migration during each of the last three years, State-wise;

(c) the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(d) the steps being taken by the Government to stop this migration and create more employment opportunities in the rural areas?

(a) While rural to urban migration is a characteristic of a developing economy, no such report has been received in the Ministry indicating that migration of Youths from villages to cities has acquired dangerous proportion.

(b) Question does not arise.

(c) & (d) : The Ministry of Rural Development implements the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) to generate wage employment and the Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) to create self-employment opportunities in the rural areas.
