(a) whether the Union Government has issued any direction to Administrations of all the districts of each State to give priority to complete all the projects under Smart City Mission (SCM) at the earliest and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the current status of Smart City Mission (SCM) in the country particularly in the State of Tamil Nadu; and
(c) the time-line fixed by the Government to complete the Smart City Mission in Tamil Nadu?
(a) No, Sir. The progress of Smart City projects is monitored regularly both at Central & State level to assess the performance of the cities and hand-hold them for improving the same by way of regular review meetings, field visits, regional workshops etc.
(b) As on 11th September 2020, total 4,903 projects worth Rs. 1,68,734 crore have been tendered, out of which work orders issued in 4,068 projects worth Rs. 1,31,792 crore are under implementation/ completed.
In the State of Tamil Nadu, 11 cities have been selected under Smart Cities Mission in different rounds of selection. Smart Cities in Tamil Nadu have tendered out 429 projects worth Rs. 14,540 crore of which 408 projects worth Rs. 14,077 crore are under implementation/completed.
(c) Smart Cities are expected to complete their projects within 5 years from the date of their selection.
