Question : Model Schools in Odisha

(a) the details of targets and achievements in setting up of model school in the educationally backward blocks of the country including in Odisha during the last three years along with the reasons for short fall, State/UT-wise;
(b) the financial assistance provided by the Union Government for this purpose during the last two years and the current year to the States, State/UT-wise including Odisha;
(c) whether the Government is likely to consider all the model schools both recurring and non-recurring sanctioned under EBB Scheme for providing financial assistance and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether Union Government is considering to give priority for setting up Model schools from class-I to class X in States/UTs especially in Odisha and if so, the details thereof; and

(a) & (b): The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Model Schools envisaged setting up of one model school per block as a benchmark of excellence at the block level. Under the scheme, there were no yearly targets for setting up Model Schools. However, State-wise number including Odisha of Model Schools sanctioned and made functional till date and funds released during 2014-15 is given at Annexure. No funds were released during 2015-16 and 2016-17 as the scheme has been delinked from the support of Government of India with effect from 2015-16 and stands transferred to States/UTs in the light of higher devolution of funds to States as recommended by the 14th Finance Commission.
